2018 was a brutal year for journalists with 53 murdered and more than 250 imprisoned. Four more journalists have been killed already this year including in Honduras and Mexico. Join the International Affairs Forum for this special opportunity to evaluate press freedom around the world and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

RAMI KOURI is an internationally acclaimed journalist, commentator, author and professor at American University of Beirut. He brings to Traverse City a journalistic lifetime of covering and commenting on conflict, terrorism and politics on the global stage. Dialogue on stage facilitated by JACOB WHEELER, Instructor of Journalism at Northwestern Michigan College, followed by q/a with the audience. Special welcome and recognition of our own local journalists including the Traverse City Record Eagle, Interlochen Public Radio, and WTCM Radio, as well as up-and-coming student journalists!

Thank you to IAF’s Season Underwriters Boomerang Catapult and FIM Group. And to the Traverse City Film Festival and the National Writers Series for year-round efforts to keep us informed and engaged.
