Halloween is a cherished time of year when adults and children alike dress up in costume and eat way too much sugar. The State and Bijou are proud to bring you some of our favorite annual Halloween-themed events, along with some new things we've never tried before.
First up is the State Theatre's first ever screening of cult favorite "The Rocky Horror Picture Show!" It's hard to believe we've never screened this film before, but in the past the fear of what has to be cleaned up after a Rocky Horror screening was enough to keep us from showing it. But we're throwing caution to the wind (and imploring you not to bring rice and supersoakers and Silly String) and showing it anyway! So come on down in your best Dr. Frank-N-Furter or Magenta costume and help us do the Time Warp again for the first time!
The next morning the fun continues with our annual Halloween Cartoons and Haunted Basement Tours, where kids of all ages can watch spooky cartoons on the big screen while waiting for a guided tour of our haunted basement! The tour has two levels: Spooky (for younger kids) and Scary (for older kids), so make sure you're on the one that's right for you and your family! We'll also have candy and goodies galore in the lobby, too. So if you're downtown for the annual Halloween Walk you don't want to miss it!
Then on Sunday at 6:00 pm, join us for a screening of Kenny Ortega's Halloween classic "Hocus Pocus!" There will be games and prizes so be sure to come in costume!
And though October may be over, you can't miss our special Day of the Dead Celebration on November 1 at 6:00 pm! Not only will be screening the family-friendly film "The Book of Life" but there will also be special live musical performance from local artists Miriam Pico and Oh Brother Big Sister!
