Hopefully you followed directions there, 'cause it is time once again for the State Theatre's illustrious Halloween Schedule! It’s several weeks of spooky celebrations leading up to a special Halloween day event! Let’s get started.

We kick things off this Friday, October 20 at 11:00 pm with an Friday Night Flicks screening of the 1996 teen horror classic “Scream,” complete with a Ghostface photo booth and period-correct cordless telephone. Tickets are only $3 each or 2 for $5!

The Traverse City Film Festival is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $70,000 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) for the State Theatre's urgently needed new boiler. We are required to match these funds with other public and private dollars -- so your support is appreciated more than ever as we continue to raise funds to purchase and install the energy-effiencent system needed for us to remain open. Well, you should be. It's only the best holiday there is all year! What could be better than Art House Theaters around the country taking a day to celebrate the important cultural role or art houses play in communities. And this year's celebrations are shaping up to be the best yet. We've got special screenings and events you'll only find at your independent art house cinema all day at the State on Sunday, September 24 and a special kick off event on the evening of Saturday, September 23. Oh, and there’s FREE BEER!

We're very excited to annouce the opening of Logan Lucky next Friday, September 1 at the State Theatre! It's the latest from acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's 11, Magic Mike, and Erin Brockovich, to name just a few). He's a terrific director that's not only helmed his own material, he's also known for assembling fan edits of well know classics in his spare time. What's a "fan edit," you may ask?

Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit opened last week at the State (showtimes available here) and in case you didn't know, the harrowing and disturbing scenes depicted in the film are  based on the real-life events of that happened in Detroit fifty years ago.

We've got the must-see blockbuster movie of the summer (Wonder Woman, of course) at the State right now and we'll be holding it for a third week starting next Thursday! If you haven't seen it yet - and were maybe soured on DC superheroes after seeing the terrible Batman Vs. Superman from last year - we highly suggest you give this movie a try.
